How everything is counted
Every public Jazz Jackrabbit 2 server lists itself with one of three list servers — list.digiex.net, list.jj2.plus and list.pukenukem.com — which share their lists with each other, so this page sees all of them. The list is read once a minute.
Players listed are what each server reports to the list, bots and host accounts included. Player-hours add up players × time: 4 players for 30 minutes is 2 player-hours. A server is one address and game port; a new name on the same address is a rename. A session is a server listed without a gap of more than 5 minutes. A server not seen for 30 days is counted as gone.
Player names come from JJ2+'s own server query — the same list JJ2+ shows anyone in its in-game server browser — asked of each busy server about every two minutes; nothing ever joins a server. Servers before JJ2+ 5.5, and private ones, do not share names. People leaves out bots (named "Bot…") and servers' own host accounts (spectating nearly all of the time, online most of every day they are seen). A player is one name across colour codes, capitals and the score counters some servers add to names. What is kept about a player: hours per server per day, the days they played, the month first seen and the day last seen. Nothing finer — no times of day, no session log, nobody they play with.
People checking the list counts the distinct game clients that fetched the list from list.digiex.net in a UTC day — the other two list servers serve their own clients, which this page cannot see. A client fetching it more than 100 times a day is a website or bot and is counted apart. Addresses are never stored: each is replaced by a code that changes every day.
Days are UTC days; times are shown in your own time zone. Charts for today and 2 days are per 5 minutes; longer ranges hourly or daily. Server addresses are shown only while a server is online, as the in-game list shows them. Countries come from DB-IP (CC BY 4.0).
